Chrislene overcomes setback to shine at National Championships

Despite suffering an early setback, The Dome Swakopmund’s Junior Athlete Chrislene Klein-Nienaber made her mark during the recent Namibian National Junior Athletics Championships by winning both the long and high jump competitions in the U15 girls age divisions in Windhoek.

Chrislene got off to the worst start possible, when the talented ace from the coast slipped off the blocks during her 80-metre hurdles race, mistiming the first hurdle in the process and thus suffering an fall.

But the misfortune didn’t break her spirit. In fact, it motivated Chrislene to even better in her next two events as she smashed the Namibian record for this age group and her own personal best in the long jump competition, clearing a staggering 5.38 meters in her best attempt to take the gold medal. She collected another national crown when she won gold in high jump with 1.55 meters.

The youngsters sights are now set on the Confederation of Southern Africa Schools Sports Athletics Championships (COSSASA) which will be held in Francistown/Botswana from 7 to 9 May. Chrislene will compete in the 80-metre hurdles race, long and high jump.

We wish her all the best of luck!
